Now, it's always best to shake your edge paint the day before use, especially if you haven't used a particular colour for a long time. This gives tiny bubbles the time to burst inside the bottle. Great project. I'm curious where the shooting range is located. The targets are great. On a different note, what are the courses in the Beginners course (the 27 pounds or so priced course)? Are they the same tutorials as the ones listed in your "Techniques Courses' list ? Thank you.

    • @LeathercraftMasterclass
      @LeathercraftMasterclass Місяць тому

      Hello Alan. The range is in Kent, UK. The area you see is only one of the practice areas by the car park. The course itself is in 35 acres of woodland with 42 3D targets. The Beginner Class is a VERY basic foundation course for newcomers. It's designed to be incredibly simple, showing you how to saddle stitch by working up to that skill level gradually. It also comes with a Tool Buyers Guide and Leather Selection Video, showing you what tools you need and how to select leather based on quality. The class comes with a refund guarantee if not satisfied. Philip

      @@LeathercraftMasterclass I am enjoying the videos. I like how you break down simple tasks in their separate elements, very slowly. I call that the 'French' method compared to the 'US' method which is short and to the point, but in your case it is the "British' method unless you prefer a different name or just say the "Finch' method ;-). In any case they are great videos. Thank you for saving the knowledge of these age-old techniques that used to be passed solely from school to student. I know, I attended the Hermes school in Paris, called at the time L'école de l'Abbé Grégoire. I believe the name is different today (something like the institute of ? can't remember right this second) but their purpose is the same. I decided to not work for Hermès, something (everything actually) to do with how much hermès workers are paid and the fact I would not be able to buy the bags I made or much anything for that matter. But that's another story.

      If you are new to leathercraft, I wouldn't recommend it. It's notoriously hard to work with, and even for a small hide, you're looking at a £500 or more for a single skin. Look on eBay for offcuts, but don't be tempted by cheap hides from overseas. You'll need a CITES permit otherwise.

    Great video Phil, thank you so much for it. Did you consider 3 leather straps with Sam Brown studs to secure it? You have nice form with shooting btw. I could not help notice that your quiver is a bit wimpy:) How about channeling your inner Robin Hood and make a video on how to make a quiver? Would make a great video for your master class:) Hope you have a wonderful day.

    • @LeathercraftMasterclass
      @LeathercraftMasterclass Місяць тому

      Thanks Robert. Yeah, I was thinking about using Sam Browne studs, but I was envisioning having difficulty securing them with one hand. Also, if the bracer shifts forward you'd lose tension as a forearm tapers down (assuming they're connected to leather straps). I'm sure there's a way, I just went with bungee for simplicity really. As for the quiver, that's a bigger project for another time I think :D

      Try lowering the blade angle (lay it flatter) to get a little more friction. As long as the very edge still makes contact with the strop, it'll sharpen it. Alternatively, get the NT Cutter rotary knife, you've seen it works..
